STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE
The student license is the first stop on your way to achieving your flying goals. You must get a student license before applying for any other license. After receiving your medical certificate your instructor will “activate” your certificate if you meet the student requirements applicable to you. Stop by our office today and get a list of local medical examiners that can give a FAA physical exam. Requirements:
- Must meet T.S.A. requirements (Original or Certified copy of your US Government-issued Birth Certificate and US
- Government-issued photo ID, or a valid, unexpired US Passport)
- Be at least 16 years of age to solo.
- Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
- Pass an FAA medical exam (level of exam is determined by your goal license) (PANW recommends you do this early in your training as you will not be able to solo without your medical certificate which is obtained through an aeromedical examiner (AME)
First Solo Requirements:
- Must take a written test, which may be completed at PANW
- Receive required endorsement
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Received and logged the required flight training
- Average is approximately 15 hours of flight for solo

Hours required:
- Pacific minimum for solo is 10 hours
- Average is approximately 15 hours of flight for solo
General Limitations:
A student pilot may not act as pilot in command of an aircraft:
- That is carrying a passenger
- That is carrying property for compensation or hire
- For compensation or hire
- In furtherance of a business
- With a flight or surface visibility of less than 3 statute miles during daylight hours or 5 statute miles at night
- When the flight cannot be made with visual reference to the surface
- In a manner contrary to any limitations placed in the pilot’s logbook by an authorized instructor.
